How does war affect our well-being and communication with others?
How to talk properly with the military? How to support bereaved families?
How can we get along when we share a common experience of war, while each of us is living it through in their own way?
How empathic communication can help our society to become stronger and people — more resilient?
These topics and much more will be covered in the new video course on empathic communication by our experts:
Tetyana Troshchynska, Editor-in-Chief of Hromadske Radio, host, empathic communication coach, and Ksenia Voznitsyna, neurologist, Director of the Center for Psychological Health and Rehabilitation of Veterans “Lisova Polyana” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
And also a guest expert — Maksym Kolesnikov, a veteran of Ukraine's Armed Forces.
This course is designed for a wide range of Ukrainians, including military/veterans and their families, bereaved families, displaced Ukrainians, and families hosting IDPs.
The course consists of five lectures, covering the most worrying issues for every Ukrainian.
Lecture 1
War and society: Why is it important to empathize now?
From this lecture you will learn how empathic communication, the ability to hear each other and discuss complex topics in a proper way can make our society more resilient and united during the war.
Lecture 2
Different experience: Communication between military and civilians
In this lecture we will discuss how civilians and the military can stay in touch; how veterans can reintegrate into society, and how society can and should support this social group.
Lecture 3
The trauma of loss: How not to make the pain even worse
From this lecture you will learn how people experience the trauma of loss and proper means of communication with such people in order not to harm but to support them.
Lecture 4
Displaced Ukrainians: How to accept and be accepted
In this lecture we will talk about various ways of adaptation to the new environment for people forced to change their place of residence. We won't forget about communities that host IDPs and explain how to understand their experience and build communication.
Lecture 5
Family and the experience of war: How to strengthen relationships
In this lecture we are talking about the challenges in understanding Ukrainian families often face today. We will discuss the changes in partners, long-distance relationships, and childcare.
