In Ukrainian society, double standards towards gender roles still prevail. There are different expectations for women and men about their place in public and private spheres, and their productive and reproductive labour. Early marriage in Ukraine is connected with the problem of early sexual debut of young people, and unplanned pregnancies. Early marriage may cause problems such as school dropout, and prolonged economic and psychological dependency on parents.
