On August 12-13, in Kyiv, we invite editors and journalists to a hands-on intensive media workshop on gender and domestic violence.
According to UNFPA, the UN Population Fund in Ukraine, half of the population fails to recognize psychological and economic violence, and one of every four Ukrainians admits that physical violence against women can be justified.
What we can do to raise public awareness and speak aloud that manifestations of violence are never okay? What role can the media play in this? How to write about gender and domestic violence to have your voice heard and avoid harming the victims?
The following topics will be covered within 2 days of the intense workshop:
- Domestic and gender-based violence: speaking in simple words about a complicated problem
- What is wrong with the Ukrainian legislation on gender-based and domestic violence?
- Amendments in Ukrainian legislation to prevent and combat domestic violence
- Interview with victims: professional and ethical principles
- Assistance services in Ukraine and models of their work
- Face to face: how people provide social and psychological assistance to victims of gender-based violence.
- Feminism in the Game of Thrones. Why is it worth watching (or re-watching)?
Speakers include experienced media trainers, gender specialists, representatives of the Polina police project, psychologists of mobile social and psychological assistance teams.
