On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, UNFPA and International public organization "Woman of the III Millennium" supported the Ministry of Social in conducting a Forum «The Role of a Woman in Ukrainian Society».
The Forum took place on the 1 March in the premises of Kyiv Academic Studio for Theatrical Art “Suzirya”. More than 120 people participated in the event – representatives of civil society and international organizations, women-entrepreneurs and women-heroines. The Forum aimed to honour those women who achieved success in their professional carrer and at the same time harmoniously combine work and family responsibilities.
The participants of the Women’s Forum were welcomed by Ms. Natalya Korolevska, Minister of Social Policy. Ms. Korolevska said that gender problems need to be solved in a complex and systematic way, and the basic document in the regard would be the State Program for Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women till 2016.
Welcome words were also made by representatives of international organizations: Ms. Nuzhat Ehsan, UNFPA Representative for Ukraine, Country Director for Belarus; Ms. Ricarda Rieger, UNDP Country Director; Ms. Mariya Yurikova, Deputy Head of the Delegation of EU to Ukraine; Ms. Madina Dzarbusinova, Coordinator of OSCE projects in Ukraine.
Addressing the participants, Ms. Nuzhat Ehsan, UNFPA Representative in Ukraine, mentioned that theme of this year's International Women’s Day globally is "A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women". Ms. Nuzhat said that in order to combat this phenomenon joint efforts of the Government, international organizations and civil society are needed.
The event was followed by a press-briefing and mono-performance «A moment of love».
