Chernivtsi region hosted a training seminar on “Building partnership for better family planning services and accessible contraceptives". The event was initiated by the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine and organized jointly with the USAID program "Healthy Women of Ukraine” and Chernivtsi Regional State Administration. The seminar was attended by representatives of Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsya and Khmelnytskyi regions’ family planning service providers. Other events in this framework were previously held in Poltava city and in Crimea.

“The seminar was aimed at discussing the issues related to the family planning services and providing accessible contraceptives to public. Ukraine succeeded in lowering maternal death rate and improved its demographical situation . However, this is not enough. We need at least to secure the sustainability of this level, which can be provided through the reproductive health improvements”, explained UNFPA Ukraine Assistant Representative Mr. Pavlo Zamostian. “One of the most important issues in this regard is the supply of contraceptives that prevent unwanted pregnancies and consequent abortions, protect from sexually transmitted infections.”

During the seminar, the participants examined and discussed many issues related to the advantages of family planning practices, social and economic benefits of investment in family planning, communication strategy development to provide the general public with information on reproductive health protection and high end family planning methods, etc.
