On March 20, an official presentation of the daycare centre and crisis room for survivors of domestic and/or gender-based violence took place in Voznesensk. This initiative was implemented as part of the UNFPA project "Cities and Communities Free from Domestic Violence" with the support of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the Voznesensk City Council, financial assistance from the Government of Canada and the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, and in partnership with the NGO "Successful Woman."
The Voznesensk territorial community joined the project in 2023. Since then, training sessions have been conducted for expert consultants on developing a municipal system for preventing and responding to violence, as well as for social workers, child protection service employees, employment centre staff, police officers, educators, medical professionals, social protection officials, probation centre staff, and members of the mobile team providing social and psychological assistance.
Each year, the number of reports of domestic violence continues to rise. In 2024, the Voznesensk mobile team carried out 358 field visits and provided services to 337 survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. In 2025, 29 visits have already been conducted, assisting 34 survivors of violence.
The daycare centre is a free, accessible, and safe space where survivors of violence can receive comprehensive support in a comfortable environment, including:
- Counselling from a psychologist and a social worker;
- Legal consultation;
- Social support services aimed at overcoming or minimizing the consequences of domestic and gender-based violence;
- Information about services provided by other organizations and institutions working in the field of violence prevention and response.
The crisis response room is a secure 24/7 space for short-term stays for individuals who fear being left alone with their abuser. The location of the crisis room remains confidential.
In crisis rooms, women and children who have experienced domestic violence are guaranteed safety and receive round-the-clock support from specialists. All survivors are provided with essential living conditions, necessities, and food for a comfortable stay.
These services are another step toward creating a safe space for those who have experienced violence, ensuring them proper protection and support within the community.
