A platform to determine the Youth Welfare Index was launched in Odesa. This is a good opportunity for young people to express their views regarding their welfare and the life in the city. To do so it is necessary to participate in a survey and answer the questions of the Youth Welfare Index (YWI) questionnaire.
The platform website is available at http://odesa-ibm.com.ua/
It is an aggregated Index that covers education, health, security, access to information and communication technology, and economic, social, and political opportunities’ indicators. YWI will allow conducting a comprehensive assessment of the level of youth welfare in the city.
The Global Youth Welfare Index (YWI) was developed based on the idea that in order to ensure collective welfare, young people need to be given the opportunity to express their views on the existing social order, and their requests and needs should be taken into account for them to realize their ambitions in their communities.
To determine the municipal YWI for Ukraine, authors of the methodology used the results of analysis of world experience in determining the most important aspects of life and welfare of youth, areas of youth development, methods of youth welfare, as well as own assessment of available data on various aspects at the municipal level. As a result of this work, the authors identified 49 primary indicators, which are grouped into 7 important blocks:
Education
Health
Economic opportunities
Participation in political life
Participation in public life
Information and communication technology
Security and safety
Having Index data that represent the situation of young people available, statesmen and other decision-makers at the municipal level receive specific information on achievements that can be shared as examples of best practices with other communities, as well as vulnerabilities that can be addressed through regional and local policies.
