On October 15, 2018, the United Nations Population Fund, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine, launched a series of training sessions for the "Polina" teams on domestic and gender-based violence response in Vinnytsya, Zaporizhzhya, Lviv, Mykolayiv and Kherson oblasts.

UNFPA already has successful cooperation experience - during 2015-2017, training and professional development of National Police units (patrol service, district police officers), training of mobile teams on domestic violence response and prevention in the framework of the "Polina" pilot project and "102" service operators were provided.

During the training sessions, which take place on the basis of interactive classrooms at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs and Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, the participants:

• Obtain the necessary knowledge about the concept of domestic violence, its forms, causes and conditions of its manifestations, the legal basis for prevention and response to this phenomenon, psychological aspects of this phenomenon, as well as the matters of the police interaction with other state and non-governmental organizations in the system of comprehensive assistance to the victims;

• Familiarize with the forms and methods of police activity aimed at preventing, detecting and eliminating domestic violence;

• Practicing police skills on response to domestic violence based on developed scenarios in an interactive classroom.

Within the framework of Ukraine-UNFPA Cooperation Program in 2018-2022, UNFPA is implementing a three-year project aimed at supporting the Government of Ukraine in strengthening the national system for preventing and combating violence against women by ensuring the availability of quality services for victims of violence and fostering the culture of zero tolerance to violence in the Ukrainian society. The National Police of Ukraine is one of the partners of the project.

Training for "Polina" mobile teams on prevention and response to domestic violence are sponsored by the Government of the United Kingdom within the framework of the UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund Program in Ukraine "Integrated Approach to Addressing the Problem of Violence against Women and Girls in Ukraine".
