At the Kharkiv regional clinical perinatal center, life continues — even in close proximity to active combat zones. Despite ongoing threats, women continue to give birth here, knowing they can count on f the medical staff and their support.
Marina, Iryna, and Alina have all chosen this maternity hospital more than once for the birth of their children.
Marina
For Marina, this is her third pregnancy entrusted to the team at the Kharkiv regional clinical perinatal center. Her choice is rooted in a relationship of trust that began during her first delivery, when swift medical action saved her daughter’s life during a critical moment.
“We never even questioned where to go to give birth. During my first pregnancy, there were complications, and every minute counted. Thanks to the doctors’ professionalism, everything turned out well—now my daughter is 17. They truly worked a miracle. I feel calm with them and I’m not afraid of giving birth,” says Marina.
She also notes how the hospital has evolved since her first visit, with improved facilities and a medical team that remains attentive and dedicated.
Iryna
Iryna, 36, is experiencing her second pregnancy at the Kharkiv regional clinical perinatal center. She returned to this facility because of the high standard of care and the availability of a neonatal intensive care unit.
“My first child was born prematurely and needed intensive care. The doctors did everything possible to support her recovery. Their professionalism, compassion, and dedication left a lasting impression,” shares Iryna.
She recalls the support she received during a very difficult time, which ultimately led her to return to the same hospital for her second pregnancy.
Alina
This is Alina’s second time giving birth at the Kharkiv regional clinical perinatal center. After a positive experience with her first child, she had no hesitation in returning.
“We live nearby. The first time I was referred here, but the second time we made the choice ourselves,” says Alina.
“We had wanted this child even before February 24. At first, it didn’t seem like the right time—but life goes on, and we realized it can’t be postponed,” she says.
Despite constant danger, the Kharkiv regional clinical perinatal center continues to play a vital role—supporting women in their most vulnerable moments and providing safe conditions for childbirth.
UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, in partnership with the European Union, continues to support women and girls in Ukraine’s most affected regions, ensuring access to essential health services in safe and dignified conditions.
