With the strategic support of the Government of Japan, UNFPA will strengthen reproductive health commodity security to aid the Ukrainian national healthcare system, significantly affected by the full-scale invasion. Women and girls will have improved access to life-saving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, and the national Ukrainian healthcare capacities will be strengthened to effectively respond to the humanitarian emergency.

Critical SRH supplies, including pharmaceuticals and other necessities, will be delivered to over 100 medical facilities and 30 SRH mobile health units. This initiative will substantially support our 132 inclusive barrier-free gynecological surgery rooms, where anyone can receive anonymous, round-the-clock, and free-of-charge gender-based violence emergency help. These service delivery points are established and embedded within existing healthcare facilities, providing specialized SRH services, including the clinical management of rape.

Ambassador of Japan Kuninori Matsuda, together with the representative of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, Massimo Diana, visited the Kyiv Regional Perinatal Center on February 2nd.

«The Government of Japan recognizes the urgent need to support the humanitarian response due to the full-scale invasion and expresses its willingness to assist the beneficiaries of UNFPA Ukraine. Japan’s humanitarian assistance will reach more than 270,000 Ukrainian women and girls», said the Ambassador of Japan, Kuninori Matsuda.

«Everyone must have access to quality healthcare. That's why UNFPA's sexual and reproductive health services operate in 23 regions of Ukraine, providing specialized medical assistance every day to those who need it most. Thanks to this pharmaceutical aid, even more people will have direct access to life-saving medical services in the field of sexual and reproductive health, contributing to the strengthening of the national healthcare system», stated Massimo Diana, Representative of UNFPA Ukraine.

Through collaboration and joint efforts with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, UNFPA Japan and the Government of Japan, women and girls in Ukraine will have improved access to essential SRH services, while the national healthcare system receives substantial support.
