Estonia has allocated €68,000 to support UNFPA Ukraine’s initiatives aimed at strengthening demographic resilience and empowering young people during the war. This funding contributes to UNFPA Ukraine’s Country Programme output, supporting youth-led initiatives that focus on resilience building and equipping adolescents with essential knowledge and skills.
By contributing to youth-led initiatives, UNFPA focuses on providing comprehensive sexuality education, promoting healthy relationships, and preventing violence – key components in shaping a resilient generation. With Estonian funding, UNFPA will continue to support Pubertat, an innovative digital sexual and reproductive health project designed to provide accurate, stigma-free information on puberty, reproductive health, contraception, healthy relationship, personal safety, and preventing unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Since its launch in 2022, the project has reached 13 million people, including 5 million in 2024 alone, through animated videos, thematic posts, and expert guidance on an Instagram platform. Pubertat has become a trusted digital space for Ukrainian adolescents due to its evidence-based content and interactive user engagement. Its impact is reflected in thousands of interactions from young users seeking advice and expressing gratitude for the information provided.
"In times of war, young people face numerous challenges that are often overlooked, yet their well-being is essential. Supporting their education, safety, and resilience is not just an emergency response – it is an investment in the country’s future and recovery. Thanks to Estonia, we can continue empowering young Ukrainians with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions and navigate these difficult times," says Ulla Mueller, UNFPA Representative to Ukraine a.i.
We are grateful to Estonia for their continued support in strengthening UNFPA Ukraine’s efforts to empower and protect young people during these challenging times. Initiatives like Pubertat help protect them from stigma and discrimination by providing inclusive, judgment-free information on reproductive health while equipping them with the tools to build a safer future.
"In the brutal war against Ukraine, young people need guidance, knowledge, and support more than ever. Estonia remains committed to standing with Ukrainian youth, ensuring they have access to education, safety, and the resources necessary to navigate the challenges of war. We are not only helping young people today but also strengthening the foundation for Ukraine’s future resilience and recovery," says Annely Kolk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Estonia to Ukraine.
