The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Ukraine expresses its deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Denmark for 25 million Danish Krone (US$3.6 Million). This essential funding will significantly enhance UNFPA's humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, addressing critical needs arising from the ongoing conflict.
The war has left over 14.6 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 7.8 million who require health services and 2.5 million in need of gender-based violence (GBV) support. The conflict has displaced 3.7 million people within Ukraine and caused 6.3 million to seek refuge in neighboring countries.
Denmark's contribution will enable the provision of life-saving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, emergency GBV prevention and response, and support for internally displaced persons and returnees. Additionally, the contribution will help strengthen the healthcare system by ensuring a long-term supply of essential medicines, commodities, and equipment.
His Excellency Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Danish Ambassador to Ukraine, stated: "Denmark stands with the people of Ukraine during the times of Russia’s ruthless aggression. Our contribution to UNFPA reflects our commitment to supporting those who are most vulnerable, especially women and children. We believe that by working together, we can help to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience”.
"Denmark's timely contribution will significantly impact our ability to deliver crucial services to women, girls, and other vulnerable populations in Ukraine," said Massimo Diana, UNFPA Representative to Ukraine. "These funds are crucial for maintaining access to reproductive healthcare and GBV support in the most affected regions."
UNFPA's response focuses on hard-to-reach areas close to the front lines and no longer occupied regions, working with Ukrainian government, local and national partners. The ongoing humanitarian crisis requires integrated recovery and humanitarian efforts, and Denmark's contributions significantly support these efforts.
