28-29 May, 2013 UNFPA jointly with WHO and under the leadership of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine organized Annual Review meeting and dissemination workshop of the Beyond the Numbers-Near-Miss Case Review (NMCR) Methodology. These events summarized one year piloting experience in Ukraine of the WHO Beyond the numbers near –miss case methodology which was supported jointly by UNFPA, WHO and SDC. Four pilot maternities (in Lviv, Zhytomir, Kyiv and Lugansk ) successfully practiced NMCR methodology - WHO tool of continuous quality of care improvement based on the confidential and thorough review of severe morbidity cases at the level of the institution.- It is now ready to be disseminated in other health care institutions, particularly in the newly created regional perinatal health centers within the framework of the “New Life” Project.

This workshop was organized following review mission conducted by the international expert Dr. Gelmius Siupsinskas and will kick-off the dissemination process. Representatives of the MOH of Ukraine, “New Life” National project , NMCR pilot maternities teams, Heads of relevant regional health care authorities, Heads of regional perinatal healthcare centers and developmental partners involved in the reproductive health area discussed experience and lessons learned from the piloting period and jointly identified necessary actions to kick of scaling-up of the methodology application.
