The Kherson City Perinatal Center is located dangerously close to the frontline. Despite the constant threat, this vital medical facility continues to operate and provides a full range of specialized medical services.
Supported by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, mobile gynaecological team and a mobile gynaecological clinic, both cover specialized medical services to the region's population.
Dr. Svitlana Ivanivna, an experienced obstetrician-gynecologist, shares how the perinatal center operates.
"Our medical facility is just a few kilometers from the frontline. It has been damaged by shelling,"— shares Svitlana.
"Despite this, all our medical services and hospital departments remain fully operational. We perform surgeries on critically ill patients and treat complex pathologies. Despite all the challenges, we provide a full range of treatments"— notice doctor.
"We have ensured the safety of our patients and doctors, which allows us to perform surgeries and deliver babies without interruption. Although we do not have all the necessary equipment, this is the only place where we can continue operations and save patients despite the threat of shelling or danger,"— shares Svitlana.
"Why don't people leave Kherson? I often ask myself this question. When pregnant women come to us for examination, the first thing we offer is to move to a safer region. We are very concerned for our patients. However, the women refuse, saying, 'We trust you, we are Khersonians, and we want to be at home,'" — notice Svitlana.
The SRH mobile health units operate and mobile gynaecological clinic as part of the humanitarian response activities of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, with financial support from the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, France, and the Republic of Korea.
