Mobile gynecological teams supported by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, operate in 23 regions of Ukraine. Today, we will tell you about the work of specialists from the mobile gynaecological team in Zaporizhzhia.
In Zaporizhzhia, the mobile team operates based at the Zaporizhzhia Regional Perinatal Center of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council. The team consists of an obstetrician-gynaecologist, cardiologist, neuropsychologist, endocrinologist, ultrasound doctor, and a nurse. Team members travel to various settlements with their diagnostic equipment and consumables. Additionally, the team carries tests for hepatitis, syphilis, HIV, and blood sugar levels.
Elmira Ismailova, the regional coordinator of the mobile gynaecological team in Zaporizhzhia, states that the medical team goes out on missions 16 times a month.
"A significant portion of our region is located near the conflict zone, resulting in internally displaced persons in Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding areas requiring medical assistance. Medical care is also provided to residents of remote settlements, individuals with limited mobility, and persons with disabilities who cannot travel to medical facilities," she said.
During examinations, contact phone numbers are collected from women to inform them of the test results later. A significant number of pathologies are detected during initial assessments. These include diseases of the female reproductive organs, various anatomical prolapses, as well as non-gender-related illnesses such as skin diseases, hepatitis, and elevated blood sugar levels.
Mobile gynaecological teams and barrier-free access gynaecological surgeries operate as part of humanitarian response activities by UNFPA Ukraine, financially supported by the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, France, and the Republic of Korea.
