UNFPA delivered 2 metric tons of medical kits to Brovary City Hospital. These kits are specifically designed to provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care, addressing various healthcare needs. Each kit contains all the necessary tools, medications, and medical devices to cater to a specific type of care. UNFPA has ensured that the kits provided cover a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services, including for 105 C-section or other gynecological surgeries, mother and child resuscitation, addressing the diverse needs of women and girls in the region.
"UNFPA recognizes the urgent need to support the Ukrainian government's supply chain for medications, pharmaceuticals, and commodities related to sexual and reproductive health. As a temporary measure, we have taken action by providing sexual and reproductive health kits to address this critical gap. To date, we are pleased to report that we have successfully delivered 170 metric tons of these kits, spanning across 85 shipments. This essential support has directly benefited 74 hospitals situated in different regions of Ukraine.
At UNFPA, our overarching mission is to ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health services. We firmly believe that every pregnancy should be wanted and every childbirth should be safe. By providing these kits, we are contributing to the provision of comprehensive care that includes maternal health care, assistance to survivors of gender-based violence and sexual violence, and prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS." - said Mr. Mustafa Elkanzi, UNFPA Senior Emergency Coordinator/Deputy Representative in Ukraine.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our hospital has continued to operate without interruption. There were moments when our dedicated doctors even resided within the hospital premises to ensure round-the-clock care for our patients," - expressed Valentin Bagniuk, Director of Brovary City Hospital. "In 2021, we witnessed 1,500 births, and despite the ongoing crisis, in 2022 we managed to deliver 500 babies. Looking ahead, we anticipate an increase to approximately 700 births in 2023. We are extremely grateful for the support provided by UNFPA during these challenging times."
Additionally, 4 metric tons of medical kits were delivered today to medical facilities in Fastiv and Bila Tserkva, located in the Kyiv oblast. This collaborative effort between UNFPA and local medical facilities highlights the importance of partnership in achieving sustainable healthcare solutions and advancing the well-being of women and girls in Ukraine.
