Survivor Relief Centre opened in Chernivtsi to provide comprehensive social and psychological support to people who have left the zone of active hostilities and/or temporarily occupied territories.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Chernivtsi hosted tens of thousands of displaced persons from the East and South of Ukraine. People from the territories temporarily occupied by the Russians arrive in the city even now. Most of them have nothing but a suitcase and terrible memories of their experiences," said Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna. "That is why today we opened the fifth Survivor Relief Centre in Ukraine, in Chernivtsi. Our goal is for Ukrainians who have suffered as a result of the war to know that they are not alone and that it is not only possible, but also necessary, to count on help and support!"
Survivor Relief Centre in Chernivtsi is a place where lawyers will help solve any issues related to registration, restoration, and obtaining documents, psychologists will provide consultations, and case managers will help solve individual cases faced by survivors. Psychological assistance and rehabilitation is an important aspect competently handled by the Centre. In complex cases, in particular sexual violence, the specialists of the Center help the survivors to recover in the long term.
“The war has severely disrupted the lives and well-being of millions of Ukrainians, especially women," said UNFPA Representative Jaime Nadal. "It has forced them to leave their homes, exposing them to the threat of violence and abuse. With 6.2 million people registered as having been displaced in Ukraine, ensuring their access to essential protection services, including services for survivors of Gender-Based Violence is fundamental. These services must be survivor-centered: the survivor must be the key person and all the available assistance must be organized around her. Survivor Relief Centres like this one are the foundation of these services. At UNFPA we are very pleased to be able to contribute to their implementation, which is one of our top priorities in Ukraine."
"Thanks to the work of the Survivor Relief Centres, citizens can receive not only initial consultations and assistance, but also, if necessary, specialized medical, social and legal services, which is especially important in cases of sexual violence," said the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy in Ukraine Kateryna Levchenko.
The Survivor Relief Centre can provide services to anyone who needs help and advice.
The Centre was created on the initiative of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, with the assistance of the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy and the support of the UNFPA, UN Population Fund in Ukraine, and local authorities.
