UNFPA's work on combating gender-based violence continues in all regions of Ukraine, including Zakarpattia, home to the largest Roma community. Specialists from the Psychosocial support mobile teams and the ‘Vilna’ space visited the Roma camp in Zakarpattia, handed over 150 motivational kits to women and girls and told them about the services to prevent and adress gender-based violence that operate in the region with the support of UNFPA.

"The Uzhhorod mobile team works not only in the city but also within a radius of 50 kilometers from the city, which allows us to help as many people as possible, including the most vulnerable groups of the local population. It is very important that thanks to UNFPA we are able to provide assistance to the Roma community. Every time they are happy to see us and sincerely thank us for the help," says Ksenia Horovenko, a psychologist with the Uzhhorod PSS mobile team.

The specialists of the ‘Vilna’ space also told the residents of the Roma camp about the possibility of psychological and physical recovery in a women and girls-friendly environment in Uzhhorod. In total, there are 29 ‘Vilna’  spaces and 109 PSS mobile teams across Ukraine that help survivors overcome the consequences of violence.

Combating gender-based violence is one of the key priorities of UNFPA Ukraine. Together with our partners, we work both in large cities and in the most remote corners of Ukraine to ensure that everyone in need has access to the necessary support.
