Celebrity dads share their child upbringing tips

At the International Book Arsenal Festival UNFPA and the Art Arsenal organized a social event "Dad, Read to Me". Famous dads shared their child raising tips tips and read excerpts from The Power of Girls: Little Stories of Great Deeds book.

TV presenter Oleksandr Pedan, singer Arsen Mirzoyan and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden Martin Hagstrom took part in the readings.

 

International studies show that the active participation of dads in the upbringing of children contributes to the improvement of family relationships, fosters confidence in children and helps them achieve success. Children who enjoyed more attention from their fathers, show better performance in school and more advanced leadership skills. According to the UNFPA* survey, husbands spend twice less time with their children than their wives. At the same time, 57% of parents use** TV, tablet or other gadgets to entertain their child who actually seeks live communication with the dad. This is where Ukrainian families different significantly from the European ones, where men spend more time with children, and much number of men take childcare leaves. According to the GfK survey, 80% of elderly men regret having spent too little time with children.

The initiative is being carried out within the framework of the all-Ukrainian campaign "Happiness in 4hands", which is being implemented by UNFPA since 2015 with the support of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine. For more information, see the link.
