From September 11 to 23, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, together with Lviv Open Lab, a space for popularizing science and STEAM education, will hold an eco-intensive course for teenagers called EcoLab to develop green skills. For two weeks, participants will have excursions and master classes in modern laboratories from experts in eco-related fields.
"EcoLab" is an educational intensive for young people on implementing an eco-oriented approach in everyday life. The initiative is open to all interested boys and girls aged 14 to 17, including internally displaced persons and adolescents from other vulnerable groups.
The aim of the project is to form a conscious attitude of adolescents towards the environment and to enable young people to master modern "green skills".
The intensive program includes lectures and master classes by experts in chemistry and geography, as well as excursions and eco-toloka (cleanup).
In particular, the lecture topics cover the following issues:
- how to turn waste into a valuable resource;
- natural beauty through the chemistry of cosmetics;
- the chemical composition of water, its additives, and determining water quality.
At the workshops, participants will:
- deepen their understanding of the use of secondary resources and the environmental and economic benefits of responsible waste management
- make an authentic watch using recycled wood;
- create natural soap and moisturizing lotion under the guidance of a chemist.
This is not usually taught in secondary schools, so this project is a great opportunity to learn more about the necessary green skills.
The teenagers will also have excursions to the composting station of the Green City Municipal Company and the Water Center of Lvivvodokanal to learn about energy sources and related processes.
The eco-toloka (cleanup) will be the final event of the project, during which the participants will not only strengthen the formation of a conscious attitude towards the environment among teenagers, but also do a good deed for the environment.
The EcoLab project is being conducted by the Lviv Open Lab youth center as part of the "Springboard to Equality" project, implemented by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, in partnership with the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration with financial support from Sweden.
