Background 
 
UNFPA has started a 3-year Equality Springboard Project on Social Norms Change and Gender Stereotypes Elimination for Better Resilience and Prosperity of Women and Men in Ukraine funded by the Government of Sweden.

Objective 1. To enhance capacities of the education system to integrate gender sensitive and non-discriminative content and approach in the school curriculum, textbooks and education materials and teaching practices and to support educational practitioners  to promote stereotype-free gender norms among young Ukrainian men and women;

Objective 2.  To support men and boys’ engagement into advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment at the community level through applying equal distribution of duties in family life, including care of their children and participation in fathers programmes;

Objective 3. To engage corporate sector and provide it with guidelines and tools to introduce family friendly gender sensitive approaches in their corporate policies and programmes for staff and corporate social responsibility programmes, including domestic and gender-based violence prevention practices.  

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UNFPA Program Analyst or her designated mandated representative(s), the National UN Volunteer will:

• Support UNFPA team in the implementation of project activities.

• Contribute to drafting of media briefs, social media communication, and documentation of good practices, human stories and stories of success as well as organization of public events.

• Maintain close working relationships with the media, including editors and journalists in key national and international news outlets.

• Regularly and consistently monitor media publications in the thematic areas related to the Project, providing timely advice to the Project Coordinator and UNFPA Communication and Advocacy Manager, flagging the issues of concern, suggesting corrective actions to address them.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of behaviour changing campaigns and awareness raising information materials.

• Maintain solid working relationships with the companies-signatories to the Declaration for Gender Equality and Prevention of Domestic Violence. Provide technical support to those signed the Declaration to better implement SDGs (Goals 5 and 8) in their day-to-day operations and business strategies, and document good practices for experiences sharing.

• Explore opportunities and mechanisms for engaging civil society and private sector in responding to the needs of vulnerable groups of population affected by COVID-19.

• Help to maintain 4 Hands Happiness web-site and social media through drafting news items and event reports.

• Perform any other duties as required by the Country Office, Regional Office and HQ.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Degree in social work or other social sciences, social inclusion, civil society development, international relations community health, international relations, international law, human rights, gender studies, communication for development or related field. Master’s degree is preferable.

Required experience: 24 Months

Experience remark:

Technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas is desirable: women’s economic empowerment, gender equality, behaviour change campaigns.

Understanding of the SDGs is recommended.

Understanding of the corporate social responsibility concept would be considered as an asset.

2 years of experience working in the areas of public-private partnership, communication, public relations or marketing.

Demonstrated knowledge in gender mainstreaming, combating gender-based violence, communication for development.

Language skills:

English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Ukrainian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise: Other communications related experience

Driving license: No
