Purpose of consultancy:
Working under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the UNFPA Program Analyst Communication and Advocacy, the Communication and Media Assistant support the UNFPA CO in the general implementation of the Programme activities including assistance in organization of events at national and subnational level, ensuring UNFPA Ukraine visibility on social media and in national and regional media. The Communication and Media Assistant works in close collaboration with the UNFPA Communication and Advocacy Manager and the Communication and Advocacy Associate.
Scope of work:
 
  • Supports UNFPA Ukraine programme in implementation of communication and advocacy activities per request;
  • Assist in development and dissemination of information, writing and publication of thematic articles, preparation and dissemination of advocacy materials, including fact sheets and infographics, success stories, organisation of public and media events and organizing advocacy meetings with decision makers and opinion leaders.
  • Maintains close working relationships with the media, including editors and journalists in key national and international news outlets.
  • Support implementation of the social media component of all UNFPA Ukraine programmes and projects.
  • Regularly and consistently monitors media publications in the thematic areas related to all UNFPA Ukraine programmes exclude GBV, provides timely advice to UNFPA Communication and Advocacy Manager, flags the issues of concern, suggests corrective actions to address them.
  • Ensure proper reporting and communications on the conducted events (participants’ analysis, feedback on the communication products, mass media analysis, etc.).
  • Help to maintain CO web-site other websites held by UNFPA Ukraine and social media through drafting news items and event reports.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
 
 
Duration and working schedule:
 
The consultancy should begin as of the date of signing the consultancy contract and continue until 31 December 2019 (with possible extension), unless otherwise agreed between UNFPA and the consultant in writing. Any delays or obstacles in the performance of works should be immediately communicated to UNFPA by the consultant in writing, with the description of reasons and suggested solutions.
Working Schedule: Monday-Friday 9  a.m. till 5 p.m.

Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements:
 
Job requirements:
  • At least Bachelor degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
  • Background knowledge on development issues and /or areas related to the UNFPA mandate (sexual and reproductive health, population and development, gender equality) will be a strong asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Training in advocacy and/or behaviour change communications or trainings on the themes related to UNFPA mandate will be a strong asset.
 
Experience:
  • Demonstrated interest in and/or experience (up to 2 years) in the areas of public-private partnership, communication, public relations or marketing.
  • Knowledge in youth development, gender equality and social inclusion will be a strong asset.
Languages:
Excellency in oral and written English, Russian and Ukrainian (subject to testing).
 
Abilities and Skills:
  • Excellent writing, communication and organization skills
  • Practical experience in working with media including personal contacts among key media and in organizing media events and press conferences, as well as arranging interviews.
  • Good knowledge of visual design and layout development for information materials.
  • Ability to work independently, suggest practical solutions and follow-up effectively on the management decisions.
  • Good planning skills, proactivity, creativity and ability to meet the established deadlines are a must.
  • Skills in photography and image processing.
  • Ability to travel on duty frequently.
Dedication to the United Nations principles and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.
