L’Oréal Ukraine together with UNFPA launched the 4th season of the general training program ‘Beauty for Better Life’ targeted at female victims of domestic violence.

On August 5, 2020, L’Oréal Ukraine launched the educational process within the 4th season of the ‘Beauty for Better Life’ Project to help female victims of domestic and gender-based violence obtain a free beauty education. The Project is implemented jointly with the United Nations Population Fund and with the support of the L’Oréal Foundation.

The purpose of the Project is to train women in difficult life circumstances in the basics of hairdressing within a special course and help them pave their way to a better life.

The 4th season of the school of hairdressing for women in difficult life circumstances started this week. This course is implemented under the ‘Beauty for Better Life’ Project jointly with our partner L’oreal and with the support of the L’Oreal Foundation.

The training was to start this spring, but the pandemic and quarantine restrictions entailed certain adjustments. In order to ensure the keeping of distance and limit the number of people present in the room at the same time, we divided the usual group of 30 participants into two parts. Thus, the classes will be held in two shifts.

All participants will undergo medical examinations in order to ensure safety during training.

Also among this year novelties is a system of motivations for participants. We are extremely happy that with each new season more and more participants successfully complete the course! Last year, 29 girls out of 30 passed exams and received certificates of completion! This year we decided to encourage the participants even more and introduced a new system in which for attending classes with a psychologist, posting the information about the school on Instagram, working on own portfolio and proactive participation in the training, the girls will receive points that can be used for taking free advanced training courses!

From August 2020, 30 participants will be trained in 2 groups for 5 months in Kyiv. The program envisages 536 hours of training!

In December 2020, the participants will join a team of 5,565 people that participated in free training in different countries since 2018. Currently, the ‘Beauty for Better Life’ Project is represented in more than 25 countries in Latin America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

“The economic dependence on husband and the lack of opportunities to provide for children and themselves is one of the most common reasons stopping women from finding a way out of situations of violence. According to our research, 1.1 million women in Ukraine annually* experience physical and sexual violence and 2/3 of them do not seek help anywhere. By enabling women to acquire an occupation that can ensure a stable income, we actually make them more secure and confident, give them a tool to break the cycle of violence”, Pavlo Zamostyan, Deputy Representative of UNFPA to Ukraine.

The training course within the ‘Beauty for Better Life’ Project will be delivered by highly qualified specialists working in beauty salons that participated in special training in working with MATRIX products and have the necessary presentation skills. The training course was specially designed for this Project. The course ensures that all participants will acquire the skills needed to start a career in the beauty salon business.

“We implemented the first season of the program in 2016. For three years of Project implementation in Ukraine, 67 women took up new occupations through ‘Beauty for Better Life’. Most of them work in beauty salons; some even run their own businesses. This is an incredible result! During the quarantine and the global crisis, the number of reports of domestic violence in Ukraine almost doubled. That is why we strive not to stop and help even more women to change their lives for the better”, Mark Savchuk, CEO OF L’ORÉAL UKRAINE.
